I was glad I nick-named him Tubby."I moved here," I answered plainly. "That's it?" he asks me."Yeah, I didn't go to the beach and get tans or anything. Personally, I feel it's better to keep away from things that can cause you to die," I said looking at those girls with their tans."Tans don't cause you to die," one of them said to me."Yeah it does. Sun can cause skin cancer," I said to her."You're stupid. That's what sun tan lotion is for," she said to me."Yeah. I am stupid for not wasting my summer and lying half naked on the beach getting a so-called tan," I said to her.Nick, still turned away from me snickered slightly. I dunno why...but it made me feel very good inside. Was he laughing at me or with me? But he was laughing. And his smile was divine."What did you do this summer that was useful?" asked Tubby."I read 210 books," I announced to him. I did. I feel very accomplished."Loser," one of the girls snorted at me."Slut," I said under my breath. Nick snickered again. This time, I was sure he was laughing with me."Well done, Miss. Gomez. A bookworm are we?" Tubby asked me."You could say that," I said.And from there he droned about what we'll be learning about this year. I listened but not really. I memorized everything Nick did. The slightest movement amazed me for some odd reason. He was just like every other guy. But there was this mystery to him. A mystery to his gorgeous eyes.The bell rang and I got up. Nick took his time and was cool as he walked up and out of the class. I started walking towards the door when one of the girls who yelled at me for saying tanning causes you to die, pushed me with her Juicy Couture bag."You should watch how you talk to me," she says to me."Come Meaghan," one of her friends says to her."Nice talking to you Couture whore,' I said walking away. She glared at me. And I knew I was in for it.
