A Lufthansa Airbus A321 approaches Runway 27L and then immediately speeds up and pulls away from the ground. It then goes around and makes a successful second landing attempt. The exact cause of this aborted landing is unclear, however the plane does seem to be approaching faster than usual. Another aborted landing later in the day (not recorded) occurred due to the fact that that plane had arrived at the runway earlier than expected. The plane that had landed a few moments earlier had still not fully cleared the runway.Heathrow is a very busy airport and as such timing is crucial. If a plane approaches too fast, or a landed aircraft misses it's turn off on the runway this can potentially lead to an aborted landing. An aircraft departs and takes off from Heathrow every 40 seconds or so so there is very little room for error.Luckily, Air Traffic Controllers and Pilots are all aware of this and can react quickly to prevent an accident from occuring. How Heathrow operates at all is quite amazing owing to the amount of traffic it has to deal with.

Dec 7, 2008 - maybe the lufthansa pilot aborted because he was going to fast ..
DeathFish123 Says:
Dec 7, 2008 - i think he was coming in a bit fast so he aborted

Dec 7, 2008 - I think you're right. He does seem to be coming in pretty sharpish. I have been filming aircraft for months at Liverpool, Manchester and Heahrow airports in the UK and never until this day encountered an aborted landing that I was fully aware of from start to finish. I did catch a Monarch plane abort at Manchester but that happened so fast I only realised what had happened after it happened. There was actually another aborted landing this same day but was not filmed.

Dec 17, 2008 - Maybe he saw something iregugular with his plane. Or maybe he saw something on the runways??

Dec 20, 2008 - Looked like to fast... and flaps seemed not down far enough... i could be wrong
Lufthansa115 Says:
Dec 21, 2008 - yes, that's wrong, at 1:49 , you can see, that there are flaps...and he isn't to fast
Lufthansa115 Says:
Dec 21, 2008 - yes, he's to high for touchdown perfect, but he is not to fast !!! just because he is to high, he was going around ! all good pilots were doing that if they were him, me too...
Lufthansa115 Says:
Dec 21, 2008 - no, he isn't to fast and he had flaps...you can see it at 2:48 ...at his first approge he's to high, but not to fast and he had flaps too

Dec 29, 2008 - I would never criticise a pilot for showing common sense. A safe pilot is a live pilot and more to the point his crew and passengers are alive too.

Jan 1, 2009 - i guess you all didn't noticed he had a 20-25kts cross wind and at the 200 DH a down drip hit him, so he throttled out before he dropped like a rock short of the runway. cheers
